System requirements
Updated 6 Aug 2026 · Applies to macOS (Apple silicon) & Windows
Omitly is a desktop app. It runs on your own machine and needs very little.
What you need
- macOS: an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 11 Big Sur or newer. Intel Macs are not supported — the macOS build is Apple silicon only. One caveat while we correct it: opening password-protected PDFs currently needs macOS 26 or newer. Everything else — opening, redacting, saving and verifying ordinary PDFs — works from macOS 11 up.
- Windows: a currently supported 64-bit version of Windows.
- Enough free disk space for the app and the documents you’re working on.
What you don’t need
- No account. There’s nothing to sign up for or sign in to.
- No internet connection to redact. Opening, redacting, saving and verifying all work offline. See Where does your PDF go?
- No server or admin infrastructure for a single install.
The app can reach the network for its own updates and for in-app support, but your documents are never part of that traffic.
