Help & support

Answers to common questions below — or send us a message. Omitly runs locally, so we can't see your documents; tell us what you're seeing and we'll help.

Quick walkthrough

Check a redacted PDF in under a minute

See how the browser leak checker uses a deliberately leaky sample, reports recoverable values, and masks the sensitive details.

Pattern-based checks can miss names, addresses, unusual formats and image-only text. No findings is not a guarantee that a PDF is fully redacted.

Frequently asked

Does Omitly upload my documents?

No. Omitly is a local desktop app — redaction, verification and signing all run on your machine. Nothing is uploaded. The only things that ever leave your device are (1) an update check and (2) a support message you type and send from About → Support.

How do updates work?

Open Omitly → More ▾ → About → Check for updates. Omitly fetches a signed release, and only installs it if the signature matches — so an update can't be tampered with in transit.

How do I find my version number?

Open Omitly → More ▾ → About Omitly. Your version number is shown right under the app name.

How do I verify a redaction is real?

Every redaction writes a signed, tamper-evident audit report embedded in the PDF. Use More ▾ → Check a redacted PDF (or the Verify flow) to confirm the content is absent from the file and export a one-page certificate.

What's the difference between Personal and Pro?

Personal is the full local PDF editor with verifiable redaction, OCR and a signed audit certificate marked for personal use. Pro adds professional certificates without that mark, the forensic leak check, firm-nameable certificates, PAdES digital signing and priority support.

How do I activate my licence?

Buy a licence at omitly.app, then open Omitly → More ▾ → About Omitly → Import licence file… and select the file you received. Licences are signed files verified entirely on your device — no account, no activation server — so a perpetual licence keeps working offline, forever.

My trial ended — what happens to files I've already redacted?

Nothing changes about files you've already exported. Once your 14-day trial ends, Omitly stops producing new verified-redaction, OCR, or signing output until you buy a licence — your existing exports and their certificates stay valid and verifiable.

Does Omitly detect names and addresses automatically?

Not yet. Pattern-based detection — emails, phone numbers, card numbers and similar — is automatic today, but names and addresses stay manual by design, because automated detection there is too error-prone to trust blindly. We're evaluating an on-device AI model for a future update — opt-in, never uploaded, runs entirely on your machine — to flag likely names and addresses for you to review. Nothing it flags would count as removed until you confirm it and the verified engine does the work. No release date yet.
