Select text, areas and pages to redact

There are a few ways to tell Omitly what to remove, depending on what’s in the document.

Drag to mark a region

With the Redact tool selected, drag to draw a box over anything you want removed — text, an image, a signature, a stamp. Everything inside the box is marked for removal, whether or not it’s text. This works the same way over a real text layer or a scanned image, so it’s the one tool you need for most manual marking.

Let Omitly find personal info automatically

Click Redact personal info to scan the document for emails, phone numbers, card numbers and similar patterns. Omitly shows you what it found before anything is removed — review the list, keep what you want redacted, then apply. This is pattern-based detection: it’s a fast way to catch the obvious cases, not a substitute for reading the document yourself. Names and addresses aren’t covered by automatic detection and need marking by hand.

Redact whole pages

Open the page thumbnails panel (More ▾ → Page thumbnails), check the pages you want removed in full, then click Redact full page(s). This is faster than dragging a box across an entire page by hand, and produces the same verified result.

Then review and apply

Marking content doesn’t remove it yet — the underlying data is taken out when you click Apply & verify. Always review your redactions before saving first. What happens when you apply is covered in How Omitly removes text permanently.
